Get to Know ISBN and Its Functions
Creating a manuscript is only a small part of publishing a book; the author must also understand one of the critical identity numbers, an ISBN. The publisher will help to give a book an ISBN before publication. In 1974, Standard Book Numbering was the name given to the phrase that first appeared in the UK. ISBN is not just the number of a book; can be used to find out the identity of each book. Not only for authors ISBNs are also helpful for every publisher because ISBN includes the publisher code for each book publication.
International Standard Book Number is an international book standard number or a book identity number. Because one ISBN, comprising 10 or 13 numbers, is used for each book title, each book has a unique number, such as 978-623-468-135-2. The 13-digit number represents ISBN structure:
Prefix Identifiers
The first three codes contain the country of origin code; this section is called prefixes. For example, the use of Indonesian has the initial code of 978.
Language or Country of Origin
The following code in ISBN is the origin code for the nation or language used; by using the second three-digit order, you can determine the country from which the released book originated. If you discover a book code other than 602, the book is a publication from a nation other than Indonesia. The publication code for publications coming from Indonesia is 602.
Identity Prefixes
The nation of origin code appears in the first three codes; this section is known as the prefix. For instance, the use of Indonesian has the initial code 978. (example ISBN above).
The origin country or language
The next code in ISBN is the origin code for the nation or language used; by using the second three-digit order, you can determine the nation from which the released book originated. If you discover a book code other than 602, it means the book is a publication from a nation other than Indonesia. The publication code for publications coming from Indonesia is 602.
